Job Description: 

Reporting to the Vice President of Brand & Creative, the Design Director manages and leads the day-to-day workload of the BILL design team, to deliver high-bar creative assets for marketing campaigns, collateral, email, event signage, swag, and more. They collaborate with stakeholders across Brand, Copy, Product and Growth-Marketing teams to interpret and draft creative briefs; determine the best creative approaches for achieving results within established brand guidelines and/or templates, and coordinate with project managers to outline and oversee contributions from design team members. Throughout the life of a project, they intentionally guide work to the desired creative outcome through clear and focused design feedback. The ideal candidate is a skilled designer and experienced people-manager, with a portfolio demonstrating an attention to design detail and exceptional craft.

Responsibilities:

  • Act autonomously to manage and guide a team of designers to develop high-bar, impactful marketing creative from brief to delivery
  • Coordinate and contribute to strategic creative briefs, defining a top-level creative vision and/or prompts which drive strategic design development, interpret and clarify stakeholder feedback, direct appropriate creative revisions, and oversee delivery of final creative assets
  • Succinctly and professionally present to senior leadership, stakeholders, and organizations.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related creative field (design, advertising, etc.)
  • 6+ years minimum professional experience at an in-house team or creative agency
  • 6+ years experience managing designers, including brand, motion, and web design
  • Extensive experience working with external agencies and design vendors from RFP to delivery
  • A strategic design portfolio that clearly demonstrates your design process from ideation to implementation, and ability to lead designers to deliver high-bar creative
  • A deep knowledge of visual design principles including layout, typography, color and composition.

Notes from Hiring Manager:

  • Work shift hours: 9-5pm PT 
  • Interview process: Multiple (1 one-to-one interview, then 1 interview panel with a few of my team members) 
  • Team size: Working directly with a team of 5 supporting a broader team of 8 designers. 

MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related creative field (design, advertising, etc.)
  • 6+ years minimum professional experience at an in-house team or creative agency.
  • 6+ years of experience managing designers, including brand, motion, and web design.
  • Extensive experience working with external agencies and design vendors from RFP to delivery.
  • Experience in Creative Leadership, Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud and Asana.
